3 Fun Ways to Teach Preschool Science making it a great activity for a rainy day at home or as part of play dates with their friends.

Teaching science to your toddler is easier than teaching numbers, it’s not science or work to them, it’s a fun bonding activity.

Most people that hear the word “science think of high school or fifth grade.

That’s not the science we are talking about, lets make it simple for your preschool children to grasp.

Using common household  products it is easy to turn these 3 fun ways to teach preschool science into an everlasting  attitude towards the sciences.

1. Colored Ice

This colored ice experiment is not only fun but a great way to help develop your children’s imagination.

Fill a sandwich bag full of water and pop it into the freezer, do this the day before the activity. After the water is completely frozen, remove it from the bag and put it into a container so no big mess happens. When the ice is ready, pour some salt over it but not a lot, this is where your child will see how the ice melts coming into contact with the substance. Do NOT allow your child to touch the salty ice, it can burn them. This is where the really fun part comes in, take a few different colors of non-toxic food coloring and let your child pour some over it. The food coloring will follow along where the ice has melted and mix with the water.

It’s okay for them to get messy, fun crafts aren’t meant to stay clean when you are having fun with toddlers.

Colored ice isn’t just a fun way to teach your preschooler science, but also teaches them to use their imagination and learn colors better.

2. Bubble Bowls

Bubble bowls can be used in multiple ways, but first, start our with a clean bowl and regular dish soap.

Let the child pour some dish soap into their bowl and play with it. This way, they learn the feel or texture of the slightly thick liquid.

As they are doing the actions, say a short phrase that they can learn like, “Pour in the soap” and “Pour the water”.

Next, let them pour water in the bowl of soap and play with it. Allow them to stick their fingers in the soapy water and come to understand it with short sentences from you.

The last step is to have them stir it with a spoon or whisk, it causes more bubbles and a bigger smile on your children’s faces.

Some teachers will add food coloring to the water to make it colorful and teach them their colors better.

You can even go as far as popping bubbles one by one and counting them as they pop to learn numbers.

3. Cornstarch and Water

Here is the last of the 3 fun ways to teach preschool science.

This fun activity is a very thick mess but easy, simple, and fun for your toddlers.

Take a divided tray and cover it with foil and fill each section with cornstarch, and place it in a bucket. Give each child a couple cups of water.

You can add color if you want, but it’s just as fun without it.

With each action you use, say something small that they can repeat, not only it is a fun bonding activity but also helps them with their speech.

Tell them to pour the water onto the white fluffy stuff and mix with a straw.

The reaction you get from them is amazing.

They see it  turn from powder onto a liquid mess with powder on the sides and then turn into a thick gooey mess they can shove their hands in.

Teaching science to toddlers isn’t a science experiment to them, it is something fun and they love finding out that they can get as messy as they want.

Let your preschoolers have fun and be messy, loud, and happy.

Just enjoy and have fun, don’t get frustrated with them or they will become frustrated with you.
